Herbal Medicine

Our Clinical Herbalist will look at your health history and do an assessment of the symptoms you are experiencing, just as we do in our functional nutrition consults.  Our herbalist is always looking for patterns of imbalance in the body. For example, is the condition or symptom, hot or cold?  Dry or moist?  Herbs can be brilliantly used to rebalance the energetics in the body in addition to their pharmacological actions.  Herbal protocols can be designed using herbal teas, tinctures, capsules and/or food. Some of our clients choose to use herbs on a daily basis to support their immune health, stress levels, digestion, energy and sleep depending what is going on in their life.  The knowledge imparted during an herbal medicine consult by our expert herbalist is life-changing and puts the reigns of control back into our client’s hands.

Herbal Medicine has been used for as long as we have been alive.  In fact, prior to the early 1900s, herbal medicine was one of the primary medicines in our country.  It fell out of favor after the government standardization of medical schools and the advent of pharmaceutical drugs.  In 2018, US consumers spent an estimated total of $8.842 billion on herbal dietary supplements. It’s simple, herbs work!

Our professionals at Functional Nutrition of Wisconsin are excited to offer herbal medicine consulting services to our clients.  Our resident expert herbalist has a Master of Science degree in Herbal Medicine from the Maryland University of Integrative Health.  She is well versed in the safe use of herbs, herb-drug interactions and contraindications when using herbs.  Herbs are a valuable tool in supporting the body on its journey back to health. Our practitioner is able to weave herbs into nutritional protocols if necessary, and also teaches her clients how to become self reliant on the use of plants, many which can be grown in a home garden.
